The Anderson Artists Guild was established
in 1964 in the basement of the home of Mrs. Blanche Holcombe
under the name of the Anderson Art Association. The early members
were the founders of the Anderson County Arts Center and provided
a substantial sum to the fund for restoring the old Carnegie
Building which is now the Anderson County Arts Center.
Since it's first beginnings when
there were no places for exhibitions and little enthusiasm from
the general public, the Anderson Art Association, now the Anderson
Artists Guild, has grown in stature of itself and with the growth
of Anderson County. The Aim of the Anderson
Artists Guild is to encourage member artists to further their
work, to grow and to put good art in front of the people in
the area.
The Guild holds two shows annually...an
annual membership show and a show at the Anderson County
Fair in the fall of the year with generous support from the
Fair Management. Member artists have had individual shows and
many
have received honors within and out of the state.
Now, another enthusiastic generation
is moving in and it is hoped that the Guild will continue to
be able to give pleasure to the people of the county by their
ever improving work, and that their membership will continue
to grow so that the Guild may remain a viable and lively force
in the community. |
